Cord Meier Klodt, the acting ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany poses an impressive picture of confidence on his first visit to India. As part of the Infinite Opportunities initiatives to strengthen the Indo-German ties, he joins us for a tete-a-tete on what this visit means, and how he believes the future of the association of the two nations looks like.

Meier’s opening statement is reflective of his contentment in his role. He tells us, “Being in the diplomatic service, it is a treat to get opportunities like this. And my visit to India has tremendous importance in the global context.”

Sharing his views on the education system, Meier tells us, “In the last two years, there has been a 40 per cent increase in the number of Indian students coming to Germany.”

Meier shares his perspectives on tourism, which he believes needn’t be promoted on the oft used platform of television as a medium. He opines, “Sometimes, you have to look for unusual ways. Recently, Don 2 was shot in Berlin, which is a great way to showcase the country. Today, Indian tourists are becoming demanding and want to see more than what is offered. This is due to the collaborative work of Germany and India.”

Undoubtedly, German excellence in the automobile sector is well-known, and India is no exception. “All the big names in the automobile industry are in India. Apart from the more visible brands, there are a lot of other associations,” says Meier.

With the Euro 2012 going on, Meier is upbeat. “The team is great, but I hope they are not complacent. I hope they continue where they ended. If they are too successful, there will be too many late-nights for me!” he smiles.
