Patrick Jane is ‘The Mentalist’ who believes it’s all in the details, and not some random psychic prowess. He uses his wit, grit and of course, his indelible charm to solve mysteries with histories. And he is all set to return to Indian television

The plot

Patrick Jane is in chase of the elusive ‘Red John’, who is responsible for killing his wife and his daughter. And he is volunteering as a consultant with the California Bureau of Investigation to help Senior Agent Teresa Lisbon, in charge of the ‘Red John’ case to propel himself in the direction of Red John, while helping her and her team solve many cases. Nobody knows as yet who ‘Red John’ is, but then, each and every episode is imprinted with Jane’s aptitude at solving bloody murders and curious cases, putting ‘Red John’ somewhere in the reservoir of the audiences’ memory. But not for Patrick Jane.

The team

Teresa Lisbon is the boss of the team and this petite, keen-eyed lady means business most of the time – at least when it doesn’t have anything to do with Patrick Jane. She is direct, rarely makes a joke, and more often than not, takes flak from her boss for Mr. Jane, but at the end of the day, her team adores her. Whether Patrick and she share romantic feelings for each other – we are yet to see! Actually, let’s put it this way – we would like to see that. Kendall Cho is the perfect subordinate for Lisbon. Cho’s piercing expression is to watch out for, as is his proactive approach to Lisbon’s challenging tasks. He is the man who is always in – the man you can count on. Wayne Rigsby and Grace Van Pelt are the two other agents of the team that make the otherwise ‘straight and serious’ drama, a wholesome prospect to watch. With them around, there is romance in the air and a sort of sexual undercurrent that you want to see more of. Rigsby’s one line to Van Pelt says it all – ‘Screw the rules. Screw CBI. I need you’.

Why it’s a must-watch

We are confident that those who did see ‘The Mentalist’s earlier seasons are waiting for the day ‘The Mentalist’ begins to feature again on television. But for those who never did, this is not the most often typified police and criminal chase story. Each episode is a gripping tale – a tragedy that needs Patrick Jane’s intervention. And Jane is just an observer – a meticulous man with many ideas on crime-solving. He is the complete opposite of the oft-displayed brawny mad cop – a thinker, and yes, not to forget, an absolute charmer.
